hmmmmm.... ok..... how to start this post in a non-negative fashion... f*ck it that's just not possible.
I was at the game tonight. Actually, I sat 3 rows from the ice in the Sabres end (meaning I rarely saw the puck...) Seriously. I have this sinking feeling even though i know it's ONLY PRESEASON. but no... There were GIANT gaps in our play. The largest errors committed were made (from what I saw) because players simply couldn't read each others next move. Great teams and lines that mesh--you simply get this tic-tac-toe passing that is seamless and fluid. The habs tonight? It was like having a bling man hammer in a nail. Getting a pass on the stick or across the neutral zone was like having a tooth pulled.
Fine, enough with the analogies. this just plain sucked. Auld wasn't spectacular in nets, but he did do a decent job. Kudos to PK--i did like what i saw (except for those DUMBASS penalties). spacek also had a few good shifts... but geez for the most part the congratulatory remarks are few and far in between.
BIGGEST ISSUE (something I've already brought up before): YOUR PENALTIES ARE COSTING YOU GAMES!!!! It was the same thing last year. We're definitely not missing the speed, even though some guys get lazy and just take the hooking or tripping call. But what we lack for in size we should make up for in agility. right now it just looks like they're flailing like fish on dry land.......... ugh.
Ok--vent post taken care of. i'll post a more "professional" thingy tomorrow with pics from the game :)
